Japanese hair straightening is a process that was developed in recent years in Asia and is now being used widely in Europe and in North American spas and salons. During this treatment, curly hair is processed with a uniquely formulated straightening serum and then re-conditioned with a heated styling iron, section by section. Then, the styling technique is repeated to ensure a spectacular outcome.
Japanese straightening takes a time commitment – usually a minimum of three hours and sometimes up to eight if the client has super-long, ultra-curly or über-thick hair. The end result, however, is silky straight hair that lasts six to nine months, depending on individual growth rate. Through this process, normally rough hair shafts are smoothed and sealed, so that moisture can’t seep in and provoke “the frizzies.” Please note that you may need a little touch-up at the roots several months after the initial process, particularly if you have naturally unruly hair.
